February: Directional Drilling Explained
For readers who didn’t know much about directional drilling, Civtec’s February article provided a bit of an insight to how it works. At the time the article was published, Civtec had recently used directional drilling for a customer who had built a pool house which required power to be taken underground from the road to the new building. Civtec’s team was able to achieve this without disturbing the customer’s landscaping at all. The happily surprised customer said he couldn’t even tell Civtec had been there!

March: Working on the Waikato Expressway
Civtec informed readers of their broad range of capabilities with an article outlining their work on the Waikato Expressway. Civtec installed streetlight cabling in the Rangiriri and Cambridge sections of the expressway, as well as ITS (Intelligent Transport System) ducting, demonstrating their ability to work on large scale construction projects in diverse situations.

April: The Rise and Rise of Civtec
2017 was the year that Civtec turned three. It had already gained recognition by winning the Rising Star ‘One to Watch’ category at the Deloitte Fast 50 Business awards the previous year. Towards the end of 2017 there was even more cause for celebration, as Civtec made it onto the 2017 Fast50 index at 44th place.

May: Sustainability
As any good business heading into the future knows, sustainability and looking after the environment is essential. This article talked about Civtec’s environmental policy and owner Shane Smart’s previous work as Environmental Engineer on the construction of the Te Uku Wind Farm.

September: Safety

November: UFB Arrives in Ngaruawahia
The residents of Ngaruawahia were excited to read that Civtec was helping bring Ultra Fast Broadband to their town, as part of the government’s $300m project to extend high speed internet to 151 regional towns across New Zealand. Local iwi in Ngaruawahia blessed the project before it started and provided training around what to do if the digging unearthed anything of archaeological importance.

December: Civtec’s New Home
In 2017, Civtec moved to a new location at the very large Northgate Business Park, which was the subject of this article in December. At the new location, Civtec has much more room than at its previous premises in Te Rapa. It’s also handy to the main trunk railway line, which travels through the Northgate Business Park.
